New Faces @ LGSD
Jasmine Smith
Counselor, La Grande High School
An LHS graduate, Jasmine said she had an incredible experience at LHS and wants to be able to provide the same environment for current and future students. She returned to La Grande to be closer to her family – her mom works at Island City Elementary.
She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Belleville University in Illinois, is halfway through her master’s degree in social work and is starting her master’s in school counseling degree this fall. Previously she worked as a Child Protective Services case manager, which was heartbreaking work and made her realize she wants to be on the front line and a driving force in breaking the chains of generational trauma and abuse.
In her first year in the new job, Jasmine hopes to soak up as much experience and training as possible in order to better serve students. “I just love kids. I love how weird and funny and unique they are. They are so much fun, and I am absolutely blessed to be in the position I am in.”
Jasmine enjoys everything related to health, fitness, traveling or crafting. She and her fiancé are adrenaline junkies!
