Principal's Message

August 7, 2023

Dear Ram Families,

It is hard to believe that time is moving as quickly as it is. We are busy working and getting ready for another magnificent year for our Rams! In a few short weeks we’ll have the doors open and smiling kids (and parents) coming in for our first day. We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon! I wanted to update you on a few school updates as well as talk about some focus areas for the year.

This summer has been a busy one. We’ve put in a new sound system in our gym, and it’s awesome. No more straining to hear during programs. We can’t wait to show it off. We updated our playground! Woodchips, new playground equipment and a walking path! Make sure to come check it out! We are working on new signage that is updated around the building. It’s starting to look pretty sharp! We had several new staff members join us and we are excited for you to meet them. You’ll notice some new faces in the classroom, cafeteria and office and we want to make sure they feel welcome. Good things all around.

As for our focus this year, we are going to really be emphasizing a Growth Mindset. Our students really had a strong academic year last year. One of the best in a long time (pre and post pandemic). We outperformed the state in most every subject area, and we saw tremendous growth in our students. Credit goes to our students, families and amazing staff as they worked tirelessly with students. We want to build on that work and growth this school year.

Growth mindset is a way of looking at challenges, problems and tasks. We might not have the current skills or capacity to overcome them, but we can learn how to do it. We can exercise and train our mind to do hard things. So instead of saying, ‘I can’t do that.’ Or, ‘I don’t know that.’ We are going to add the word yet onto those phrases, ‘I can’t do that yet’ sure sounds a lot different. We know we will be able to do it, learn it, accomplish it and succeed, it might just take time. I encourage you to use this with your children and get out of the fixed mindset and into a growth mindset. It will help establish healthy learning habits as well as mental health. We will be focusing on this in our academics, attendance and behavior this year.

I encourage you to check out the attached calendars as well as our website for information, times and upcoming events. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact the office and speak with Wendie Perry or myself. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Respectfully,

Brett Smith
