The La Grande School District (LGSD) has added information on their K-12 Human Health, Personal Protection, and Sexual Health Education curriculum to their website under Educational Programs. Please go to this link, or go to the webpage at lagrandesd.org>Menu>Department>Educational Programs.
LGSD recognizes that students and families may have significant and important questions regarding how our district addresses sexual health education. This resource has been developed to help families understand current state laws, state standards, local board policy, opt out forms, etc. on this topic. Additionally, it provides links to our K-12 curriculum maps and adopted curriculum resources to aid students and families. As a district, we will continue to meet state requirements in an age-appropriate, safe, respectful, and inclusive way that honors all students and their families.
Please note: the LGSD Board of Directors did not recently adopt a new sexual health education curriculum. The LGSD Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is required to meet every two years and in March of 2022 completed their meetings. The SHAC made a recommendation to the board to continue the use of the Health Curriculum in Grades K-12 which was originally adopted in 2016. The board adopted the SHAC's recommendation on April 13, 2022. This recommendation is listed as March 2022 Board Report under Important Links for Families on the Educational Programs webpage.
If you have questions, please reach out to your student's teacher, school counselor, or principal for more information. As a district, we will continue to work with parents to meet state requirements in an age-appropriate, safe, respectful, and inclusive way that honors all students and their families.
